Since 2016, Dresden has been preparing itself for the application for the title "European Capital of Culture 2025". From the outset, transparency and public participation have been one of the most important goals for u.

With the submission of the bid book on 30 September 2019, we are now entering the home straight. In recent years, we have discussed a lot together, but we have also created a lot of laughter - but above all we have dreamed. Together we have initiated, implemented and thought ahead a multitude of projects. We inspired people, took them with us, encouraged them to think, but we also encountered a lack of understanding and spent a lot of time in discussions. And that is exactly what we want to show.

From 11 October to 15 December 2019, "Neue Heimat Dresden 2025" in the German Hygiene-Museum will be the central event and exhibition venue for our bid and will function as a mobile Capital of Culture office. During this time, the public will gain insights into the previous application process, the application book and views on project ideas for 2025.

It is an exhibition space of ideas for 2025, a temporary living room for those interested, a showcase for the application and its projects, a meeting place for talks, screenings and shows.

You can also look forward to a varied programme designed by the Kulturhauptstadtbüro Dresden 2025, as well as by our project partners inside and participation formats - in line with our application.

Head of the European Selection Commission until 2018

If you apply for the title "European Capital of Culture", you have to approach a city like an ethnologist. Participating observation is the be-all and end-all of understanding a city.
